The ABEI Program: Cultural Activities
Percussionist Manuel Wandji and dancer Merlin Nyakam at Lasalle Elementary School: March 9th, 2007
Cultural activities are a key component of the Anne Bujon Educational Initiative and offer students a tangible connection with the French way of life.
During the 2005–2006 school year the students met an Arctic explorer (Gilles Elkaïm,) a paleontologist (Jean Clottes,) a jazz singer (Dee Dee Bridgewater) and French caricaturist Plantu, among others. During the 2006– 2007 school year, ABEI students have participated in a theater workshop with French playwright Jean-Luc Annaix and actors from the Théâtre-Nuit on their US tour with the widely acclaimed musical comedy, “Battements de coeur pour un duo de cordes.”
In addition, as part of a restaurant outing to the upscale Brasserie Les Halles in downtown Washington, the children enjoyed a special musical program with acclaimed jazzman Sylvain Luc.
