Library Policies
Our membership & library policy has changed - as of September 1, no deposit is requested to use the library. See our membership policy for information on our new registration fees.
Access
You must be or become a member of the Alliance Française in order to check out materials from the library.
Library membership is not automatic when you join the Alliance; you must come by the library and sign up. We are on the ground floor of the AF building. The library hours are different from the office hours of the Alliance (see "Library Hours" below).
Borrowing
The loan period is one week for new DVDs; two weeks for older DVDs all other DVDs; three week; for all other items: books, CDs, magazines, language learning. See below for policies on renewal.
The number of items you can borrow depends on your type of membership.

Renewal
You may renew by email (bibli.alliance@francedc.org), by phone at 202-234-7911 ext. 814, or online (ask us for your ID and password). You may renew overdue items but you'll have to pay an interim fee - see below.
Items may be renewed up to two times for a total of nine weeks unless:
- The item in question is a DVD or language learning material marked "non renewable"
- Another member has requested the item
Late fees Policy
- Books, CDs, tapes, movies: 25 cents per item per day
- New DVDs $1.00 per day
Loss, damage or failure to return borrowed items:
You are responsible for the items you borrow. We ask that you return items in the same condition as when you borrowed them.
If borrowed items are damaged or lost, we ask that you purchase a new copy for the library. If you can't purchase a new copy, we will charge a $20 replacement fee.
Borrowing privileges are suspended if you have an outstanding fee or $10 or more.
Thank you for adhering to these policies, which help us insure that all members have equal access to the collection.

- Two computers are available in the library
Library Hours - The library occasionally closes early for events, including film showings; check calendar.
Monday through Thursday, 12pm to 8pm
Friday & Saturday, 10am to 5pm
