Le mot du Directeur

Laurent Mellier
Executive Director
Since it was created more than 60 years ago, the Alliance Française de Washington has enjoyed continued growth in its membership, expanded student enrollment, and course offerings; created a vibrant cultural and social calendar; and maintained a top-tier library. In 2002, we created an educational outreach program in underserved DC public elementary schools that has been highly praised by Chancellor Michelle Rhee and recognized with the DC Schools Nonprofit Global Education Partner Award for its academic excellence.
The success of our classes and cultural programs has filled our Wyoming Avenue maison to overflowing, and we have run out of space to expand. Our fixed costs continue to rise while our income has not kept pace. We are working hard to keep our classes and events affordable and available to everyone who loves French language and culture. So, we are doing something we have not done in the recent past: looking to our friends for support.
The Board of Directors of the Alliance Française de Washington has established four funds to ensure that we continue to be a warm and friendly home in the nation’s capital for Francophone educational and cultural enrichment.
We hope that one of them will inspire you to contribute.
Please note that the amount of your contribution is deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes.
