TCF: Tout Public - ANF - Québec - DAP

The Test de connaissance du français (TCF), designed by the Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques (CIEP) and accredited by the French Ministry of Education, is a French language proficiency test for non-native speakers who need their level of proficiency certified. The TCF tout public is often used for professional, academic, and personal reasons. The TCF also has adaptations for immigration purposes. The Alliance Française offers the TCF Québec examination for the Quebec immigration process. For French Nationality, we offer the TCF-ANF (TCF pour accès à la nationalité française).

TcF tout public

The TCF tout public consists of three sections:

  • Multiple choice (1 hour and 30 minutes)
  • Written expression (1 hour)
  • Oral expression (15 minutes)
All candidates must take the multiple choice section. The writing and speaking portions are optional, but strongly recommended for university candidates.

TcF quEbec and TCf ANF

The TCF Québec and TCF ANF tests include two compulsory sections:

  • Listening comprehension (30 minutes)
  • Oral expression (15 minutes)
Candidates for Québec immigration may also add reading and writing tests.

The Alliance Française also offers the TCF DAP (Test de Connaissance du Français pour la Demande d’Admission Préalable). In the absence of the DELF B2 exam, this test is useful for preliminary admission to undergraduate university studies and architectural schools in France.

The TCF DAP includes 2 sections:

  • Standard multiple-choice comprehension: listening, vocabulary and grammar, and reading (90 minutes)
  • Written expression (90 minutes)
PLEASE NOTE that the TCF DAP has different session dates and registration deadlines (highlighted in blue) than the other TCF exams.
