Which exam should I take?
If you need to take a French proficiency test for Immigration to Québec (Ministère d’Immigration et communautés culturelles), take the
TEFAQ or TCFQ.
If you need to take a French proficiency test for Immigration to Canada (Citizenship and Immigration Canada), take the
TEF (all sections recommended).
If you need to take a French proficiency test for French Nationality, take the
TCF-ANF
If you need to take a French proficiency test for admission to undergraduate studies (first or second year Bachelor’s program only, take the
TCF-DAP.
If you need to take a French proficiency test for graduate school (Master’s program, PhD) or for a third year of undergraduate studies (Bachelor’s program, take the
TCF tout public (all sections recommended).
If you need a current, dated assessment of your level of fluency for personal or professional reasons, take the
TCF tout public or TEF.
If you are an adult and want an official level-based diploma that is valid for life, take the
DELF or DALF.
If you are a parent or teacher of a child aged 8-12 and would like an official diploma stating his/her level of fluency, the child should take the
DELF Prim.
If you are a parent or teacher of a teenager aged 13-17 and would like an official diploma stating his/her level of fluency, the child should take the
DELF Junior.
