This year, in keeping with the traditional annual celebration of the Beaujolais Nouveau wine release, the Alliance Française also brings a new musical twist and an unexpected cross-over of “muzette” and electronic music by Simone Marchand and DJ Stylus respectively.
Evoking the spirit of ’bal populaire’ and vintage French parties, acclaimed French vocalist Simone Marchand will perform our favorite Edith Piaf songs, including “Milord”, “La vie en rose”, ”Je ne regrette rien” and other famous hits of the same era. Her deep belief in these tunes from French Songs Glory Days, together with her own vibrant stage presence make Simone Marchand the most incredible performer of France’s musical patrimony.
DJ Stylus has been dubbed the "vibe conductor" for his style of marrying hip-hop aesthetics with tunes that range beyond "boom-bap" into realms of jazz, soul, funk, afro/latino and electronic musics. DJ Stylus delights in programming DJ sets that encompass as many genres as represented in his ever-growing record collection, seamlessly putting tunes together in ways others may have never thought of but that create "eureka" moments for the dancer or listener.
Don’t miss this event at the Alliance Francaise de Washington which is the perfect place for mixing people, French traditions and Francophile modernity.
