LAURENT MELLIER

Laurent Mellier has been the Executive Director of the Alliance Française de Washington since 1998.
Prior to his position in Washington, he served as Press and Communication Attaché at the Consulate General of France in Houston, Texas. He was particularly involved in the recovery of the shipwreck of French explorer Cavelier de La Salle, which sunk in the late 1600s in the Gulf of Mexico and was retrieved in 1995. In 1991 and 1992, he was deputy Cultural Attaché at the same Consulate.
During his years in Houston, Mellier taught French as a foreign language at the Alliance Française de Houston, where he also worked in cultural and educational programs. He also taught French in high schools for 2 years in Northern England.
Mellier is French-American. He has a Master degree (1989) in International Business from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Grenoble (Grenoble Ecole de Management), France, and a Master degree (2009) in Cultural Management & Policies at the Observatoire des Politiques Culturelles, France (Ministère de la Culture; Université Pierre Mendès France et Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Grenoble; CERAT, centre de recherche du CNRS à Grenoble.) In October, 2009 he was awarded Le Prix Allen de la Francophonie for his achievement in promoting French language and francophone cultures in the United States.
