The Nadine Fugier Fund for Teaching Excellence

Inspiring, dedicated, native French-speaking teachers are the heart and soul of the Alliance Française de Washington. Through them the Alliance fulfills its mission to promote French language and culture and distinguishes itself as the pre-eminent center of French language instruction in the nation’s capital. 

The Nadine Fugier Fund was created by former Alliance Française Board President Trudi Rishikof in recognition for Nadine Fugier extraordinary 30 year tenure at the Alliance Française. It is designed to support teaching excellence at the Alliance Française de Washington.

Teaching Excellence at the Alliance Française

The Nadine Fugier Fund will ensure that students have highly qualified teachers trained in the most up-to-date techniques of teaching French as a Foreign Language, at costs available for all.  The Fund will help:

• Recruit the best teachers from the local community, France, and the rest of the French-speaking world to ensure the Alliance remains the premier school for French as a Foreign Language in the Nation’s Capital for adults and children
• Provide an optimal working environment in which teachers thrive and students improve their language skills

Recruiting the Best and Giving Them What They Need to Excel

• The Fund will help defray the additional costs associated with these sponsored teachers including recruitment expenses and immigration, visa, and legal fees.

The Fund will support all teachers by providing:

• Health and social benefits
• Technology such as Smart Boards and flat-screen TVs with internet connections to enhance immersion teaching
•  Professional training in current pedagogical methods for adults and children, language acquisition techniques, and assessment tools
• Teaching materials including magazine subscriptions, texts, videos, DVDs and CDs.

Nadine Fugier exemplifies the standards of excellence the Alliance seeks to support.  She has inspired generations of students to love the language of Molière and Proust, appreciate the culture’s great historic and artistic legacy, and gain insight into its contemporary social, political, and economic life. Drawing on her own broad experiences and employing real-life teaching scenarios and modern technologies, Madame Fugier consistently established dynamic and successful learning environments. With wit, intelligence, and joie de vivre she has brought the beauty of French culture into her classroom and enriched the lives of her students.

Support the Nadine Fugier Fund for Teaching Excellence by giving your name to an Alliance Française classroom

The Alliance Française de Washington has several naming opportunities that provide a way to leave your own legacy in the Francophone and Francophile community, or to make a tribute or memorial gift in honor of someone special. Individuals or companies who contribute $10,000/year or more for at least two years are eligible to determine the name given to the Alliance Française classroom of their choice (depending on availability).
